ABOUT PAT MARGIS

I think I’ve managed to accomplish what Picasso once quoted “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.” I’ve always been an artist and continue to be one. And currently I’m a professional artist living in California creating fine art oil paintings mostly in the style of Dream Realism.

Early on I developed a deep appreciation for the beauty of landscapes while spending my summers at the Alfred Stieglitz, Georgia O’Keeffe estate, called Oaklawn, in upstate New York.

I started drawing when I was 6 years old and sold my first painting at age 10. Eventually I acquired a fine art degree from Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia and spent a great deal of time there producing ceramic sculpture. During that period, I worked in Belgium as a ceramicist and traveled through Europe taking in the fine art scene.

In keeping with the above Picasso quote, I’ve stayed under the umbrella of art my entire career eventually moving into commercial art as a creative director to pay the bills. To my surprise it turned out to be great creative fun and I’ve met some outstanding creative people. But now I’m back to where I’m meant to be which is in my fine art roots.
